The Gulf Looks Beautiful

Hey there.  I took a dive trip out with my cousins for Spiny Lobster Sport Season last week.  My cousin Tim and I made four dives between 70 and 95 feet and saw a lot of interesting things.  Most striking of which was the incredible water visibility.  We jumped overboard with our masks on just to confirm that we were actually seeing the ledge we wanted to dive from the boat’s cockpit.

Visibility like this is not uncommon when the area has seen a prolonged lack of heavy rains and calm seas.  Nonetheless, it is always an added bonus when you feel as though you are diving in a more exotic location than your back yard (well, actually around 20 nm offshore).

It is also striking that no matter how many times I stare into deep blue water, I always feel mesmerized as though I am looking into a campfire.  As you can see, the Gulf in our area certainly looks beautiful.  When I take a moment to remember that this is not the case for the entire Gulf, I quickly come back to terra firma.
